Vinitaly to set sail aboard the Amerigo Vespucci for a two-year journey around the world

Earlier this month, Italian minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, announced at Veronafiera that Vinitaly, the international reference event for Italian wine would set sail aboard the “most beautiful ship in the world” Amerigo Vespucci to promote Italian wine around the world.

The partnership which will kick-off from 1 July for a two-year period is driven by the Italian government in response to several requests from local companies asking for help to promote Italian wine abroad.

Both Veronafiera and Vinitaly are expected to support the worldwide training campaign where the Italian Navy's most famous training ship is intending to make stops in every continent to present the best of ‘Made in Italy’ and promote Italian excellence abroad.

With over 4000 wine companies represented at this year’s Vinitaly fair in Verona, it is estimated that the represented value chain in Italy posts turnover of more than 31 billion euros, with wine securing the first place in Italy's balance of trade which totalled nearly 8 billion euros in exports in 2022.

"It is a great honour for Vinitaly," said the President of VeronafiereFederico Bricolo, "to go on board the Vespucci and contribute with our trade fair brand to promote wine as a genuine flagship product of Italy. This new initiative strengthens our development plan targeting a permanent promotional platform coordinated with all institutional partners and capable of attracting not only market investments in Italian products but also boosting incoming visitors to Italy and its territories."
