The best online auction sites for collectibles

Collector Culture

When internet came about, it revolutionised the way we buy and sell and just when we’d found the happy medium between some impromptu physical store browsing and online shopping , the pandemic came along bringing businesses and events to a halt.

Very quickly businesses owners and managers had to shift their strategy and mindset to online. A notable transition which we believe will only continue to evolve, and particularly for auctioneers, whose online sales have skyrocketed as a result.

Whilst the emotional connection may differ from the real life experience, online auctions really do hold many advantages. First and foremost it is cost and time effective! In the past you would have had to book a flight and travel to the location where the auction was held, loosing invaluable time and money. Today, you can easily bid from the comfort of your own home. Another key point to consider with online auctions is the global aspect and worldwide reach. An opportunity for collectors to reach and bid on products, which until now might have been unaccessible. This ripple effect caused by the pandemic has cemented online auctions as a staple of the current market. If we take a look at some of the leading online auctions houses such as Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Phillips they reported a 524% increased in sales from 2019 to 2020. Demand and buyer confidence has also meant an increase in the number of online sales.

With online on the rise, we are certain that the pool of offering will also increase with more traditional auction houses going digital with and other sites popping up to join the race. Just remember to always bid on a trusted platform.

So if you’re ready to join the digital craze, here is a selection of some of our favourite trusted online platforms to source collectibles.
