One-off Bugatti Chiron Hermès Edition
Chiron dressed by Hermès: A collectible worth 6m$
On May 11, the Molsheim workshop unveiled the latest Bugatti model, made to measure for a famous American promoter. Manny Khosbin has brought together the two great iconic houses of French elegance and luxury in a single object, unique in the world: a Bugatti dressed by Hermès.
« I am a true fan of Bugatti. I really wanted to call my son Ettore, but my wife wouldn’t agree” explained Mr. Khoshbin. “When I first saw the Chiron in 2015, I immediately reserved a construction slot. As for the delivery, I am one of the last, but that is my doing”.
The Chiron has been soaked in one of Hermès’ shades, upholstered in Hermès’ cashmere, adorned with a one-to-one badge. Bugatti's iconic horseshoe-shaped radiator grill is adorned with the ‘H’ monogram. Its uniqueness and purity is not stingy with detail, for example there’s the underside of the rear fender where we see the “Courbettes et Cabrioles” Hermes motif. After the Black Car, Bugatti did not shy away from playing a scene from Black Swann by offering this chalk-coloured Bugatti.
“This special edition Chiron required two visits to Hermès in Paris, to discuss the design, the realisation of the interior and to see the progress of the work. The Hermès team, the Bugatti designers and I must have exchanged hundreds of emails. I took all my time to design this car. I did it in a conscious way, because I know that one day I will pass this car on to my son. She will live for generations”. M. Koshbi
Why create a unique model?
Three types of model are experiencing soaring prices: A very old car like a Bugatti Type 59 Sports from 1934, which belonged to King Leopold III of Belgium and sold for €10,507,413. The ex-owners have a major importance on the rating of the car.
The second scenario: A chassis no. 01 or the unique concept car is highly sought after by collectors. What interests them is not the model in its generality but the first version of the model. A version reflecting the original of the concept, its uniqueness and its flaws.
Lastly, there are unique, rare models like the Bugatti Hermès Edition by Mr. Khosbin. Its current value is $6 million; the glass roof alone costs €150,000. Even if this owner is already an insider and consumer of exceptional cars, it is not impossible that we may find the Chiron Hermès at an exceptional sale in a few years’ time, even if his intention is to bequeath it to his son.
